They serve a lot of different purposes. It's a type of gear that is typically worn by a working dog to identity them and their type of job (Police K9, Service Dog, Assistance Dog, Therapy Dogs, Military Dogs, Guard Dogs, etc).
The can also help as an identifier for a dog who is training, for adoption, reactive, a bite risk, friendly, etc)
This is a piece of gear the dog wears that hooks on the back of the harness, typically by D-rings or O-rings. Capes can act as an identifier of what the dog's purpose is (Service Dog, Medical Alert, Medical Response, etc). Capes can also have important information on them such as what to do if handler is down.
They typically have 2 zippered pockets that can hold important items such as medication, ICE cards and other essentials.
This type of harness is designed to create a "y" shape on the dog. The Y-front harness has a strap that goes though the front legs and connects to the girth strap located about 1-2in behind the front legs.
When used and fitted properly Y-Front harnesses can be used for mobility. As with any harness, your dog must be cleared by an orthopedic vet to ensure the safety of the harness, dog and yourself.
This type of harness is designed to go across the front of the chest. The harness should be fitted properly to ensure the strap does not sit too high on the neck, as this could interfere either their airway.
When used and fitted properly straight front harnesses can be used for mobility. As with any harness, your dog must be cleared by an orthopedic vet to ensure the safety of the harness, dog and yourself.
Pull straps are typically a soft and flexible material, mostly made out of rope, biothane, fleece, etc. They can connect to the dog's harness or vest. They can be used for very light forward momentum (FMP). Another purpose is grounding. Pull straps can be a great fidget, physical stimuli and provide very light mobility assistance.
They are very lightweight, flimsy and loose.
These handles serve a lot of different purposes. Guide handles can be used for a variety of tasks. Some include, navigating the team through crowds, grounding, forward momentum (FMP), etc.
These handles stand in an upright position connected to the back of the harness. These handle should be under 6" high. Counter balance handles can be used for a couple different tasks such as, grounding, maintaining balance, etc.
